NI USB-6009
The NI USB-6009 is the faster sibling of the USB-6008, with eight single-ended or four differential inputs at 14 bits and 48 kS/s aggregate, two 0 to 5 V outputs, 12 digital lines and an event counter. NI lists it as Mature and recommends the USB-6002 for new designs, but it remains on sale.

USB-6009 lifecycle status
NI’s product page lists the USB-6009 as Mature: still orderable, not recommended for new designs, with the USB-6002 named as the replacement. Both part numbers (191039-01 hardware only and 779026-01 with NI-DAQmx) list at $781 at the time of writing, more than the $715 USB-6002 that replaces it.
Operating system support for the USB-6009
NI-DAQmx supports the USB-6009 on Windows 11, Windows 10 LTSC and Windows Server 2022 and 2025. NI-DAQmx for Linux does not support it on any desktop distribution in NI’s compatibility table. For macOS there is no NI-DAQmx, and the old NI-DAQmx Base driver stopped at version 15.0 and macOS 10.14. On Windows, NI MAX, FlexLogger and the NI-DAQmx APIs for LabVIEW, C and Python all work with it. DAQAtlas, which is in development, reaches it through DAQAtlas Bridge running on that Windows PC, which the NI DAQ on a Mac guide explains.
USB-6009 versus USB-6002
| USB-6009 | USB-6002 | |
|---|---|---|
| AI resolution | 14-bit differential, 13-bit single-ended | 16-bit |
| AI rate (aggregate) | 48 kS/s | 50 kS/s |
| AI ranges | ±1 V to ±20 V differential, ±10 V single-ended | ±10 V |
| Analog outputs | 2 × 12-bit, 0 to 5 V, about 150 Hz software-timed | 2 × 16-bit, ±10 V, 5 kS/s hardware-timed |
| Digital lines | 12 | 13 |
The USB-6009 keeps one advantage over its replacement, the smaller differential ranges, which help with signals around ±1 V. Everything else favors the USB-6002, especially the hardware-timed outputs. The USB-6009 connects over USB 2.0 Full Speed and is bus powered.
Questions
Is the NI USB-6009 discontinued?
No. NI lists it as Mature, so it is still sold but not recommended for new designs; the USB-6002 is the named replacement.
Does the USB-6009 work on macOS?
No current NI driver supports it on macOS, so it needs a Windows PC.
Does the USB-6009 work on Linux?
NI’s compatibility table lists it as not supported by NI-DAQmx on desktop Linux.
